Dance
• Time: Team min=1:00 max= 3:00
• Must use all music
• Tumbling and stunting are not permitted (except forward rolls, one shoulder backward rolls and side rolls)
• Dance lifts are permitted as long as they do not go above shoulder level
• Dancers may wear post earrings and hair accessories as part of their costumes. Manipulating or discarding of costumes is permitted.
• All dance divisions may include teams with both males and females.
• Jazz - emphasis on properly executed dance technique, innovative choreography and overall team performance. Include technical elements (turns, leaps, kicks, jumps, tricks, etc.) All styles of jazz welcome including classical, thrash, studio and team jazz.
• Pom - emphasis on visual effect and synchronization with concentration on complete and correct execution of motions, blocking, and staging. Incorporate technical elements that can be clearly executed while still keeping focus on pom work. Poms must be used for at least 80% of routine. Avoid doing a jazz routine with poms.
• Funk - emphasis on contemporary street dance choreography and synchronization with concentration on the uniqueness of the choreography, blocking, staging and visual effect. This division would welcome all urban dance styles: funk, hip-hop, locking, step, and athletic dance. Avoid entering a jazz routine in this category.
Timing of Routines:
The timing of all routines will begin with the first note of music, the first organized movement, first word, or the building of a pyramid or stunt where an individual is lifted off the floor (whichever comes first).
Entering and Exiting the Competition Floor:
Competitors may do a "spirited" entrance and exit. That is, they may tumble, jump and excite the crowd. There will be no judging of this, since it is not part of the routine.
Props:
Cheerleaders may use signs, banners, megaphones and poms. The props must be physically used if placed on the floor.
Routines:
•All routines should be in good taste and suitable for family viewing.
•All competitors must be inside the performance area when the routine begins. Teams will be allowed to assume a loading position for a stunt before the music starts, but may not pre-build any pyramids or partner stunts before the timing begins.
•No penalty points will be assessed for stepping off of the mat, but there will be a penalty for extreme boundary violations during the performance.
•Any building off the mat will result in a penalty assessment of a 5 point per judge deduction.
•All pyramids and/ or mounts are limited to two persons high, meaning the flyer receives primary support from a base who is in direct weight-bearing contact with the performance surface. A base shall not assume a backbend or handstand position.
• School Teams may not perform head over heels rotations from a basket toss (no back tuck baskets).
•Tumbling may not exceed two twisting rotations.
